In 2006, Bulk Agro (India) Pvt. Ltd. and Bulk Agro Mexico Branch took a fresh approach towards Bio Fuels and created a dynamic new collaboration.
Our goal is to develop the next generation of better, more sustainable bio fuels. By working together we are creating a brighter future for renewable fuels.
New approaches and advances are necessary to make significant progress in meeting the world‘s growing demand for renewable transportation fuels. Our team of Bio Scientists and Fuels Technologists are working together to develop advanced Bio Fuels.
The first product of this new generation of Bio Fuels made from renewable resources will be Bio-Butanol.
Harmonizing to ethanol, which represents most of the biofuel used in gasoline today, Bio-Butanol represents a viable short term solution to significantly increasing the amount of bio fuels available in markets worldwide.
As an advanced biofuel, Bio-Butanol also offers a number of advantages in terms of accelerating biofuel adoption in countries around the world. These advantages are greater options for sustainable renewable transportation fuels, reduced dependence on imported oil, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and expanded markets for agricultural products.
Bulk Agro’s unity
Recognized as two top agriculture based companies for the depth and breadth of their technologies and commitment to addressing global environmental challenges, Bulk Agro India and Bulk Agro Mexico bring world-class talent and leadership together in developing the next generation of bio fuels.
The joint effort to develop advances in bio fuels began in 2003 when teams from Bulk Agro & Bulk Agro Mexico began meeting to explore novel approaches to developing new bio fuels that would perform better than those currently available.
The result was the recognition that recent advances in biosciences could enable Bio-Butanol to become a viable new biofuel component. While Bio-Butanol has been used in a variety of applications for many decades, it had not been considered for large-scale biofuel applications until now because of high production costs.
Bulk Agro is developing new biotechnology processes aimed at producing Bio-Butanol at a cost that is not just comparable to, but competitive with, current generation, traditional bio fuels, such as ethanol.
In near future, Bulk Agro aims to introduce more advanced processing technologies designed to further improve biofuel properties and performance while also enhancing production volumes and reducing production costs.
Building History
Bulk Agro Group is taking several steps to build a foundation for the production and introduction of Bio-Butanol to the market.
Vehicle and Infrastructure Product Testing
Bulk Agro have been conducting vehicle and infrastructure product testing of Bio-Butanol since July 2008.
The testing will build upon initial laboratory engine tests using conventional Bio-Butanol, which indicated that Bio-Butanol has similar fuel performance properties to unleaded petrol.
Additionally, work will be undertaken to gather comprehensive data on the environmental footprint and sustainability of this next generation fuel.
World-scale bio fuels plant
Together with Bulk Group Mexico, Bulk Agro have also started building a US$10 million world-scale bio fuels plants plan at Mexico.
Initially, the plant will have the capacity to produce 20 million litres of Bio-Ethanol annually from locally grown Jatropha but could subsequently be converted to Bio-Butanol production.
Construction of the plant is expected to begin in 2009, with production expected to begin in 2012.
Working with the automotive community
Bulk Agro is also working with automobile companies to substantiate the performance and environmental benefits of Bio-Butanol as a gasoline blending component. "Auto mobile Industry welcomes this initiative and we are optimistic it will add significantly to the range of biofuel technologies available. Bulk Agro’s actions are entirely consistent with our own aspiration to develop sustainable mobility solutions"
